Review of Medical Records

We are available to review and give our medical opinion about your prospective child's health issues based on the information in the medical records.  It is advisable to get as many of the records from the orphanage or foster care home as can possibly be gotten.  These should be requested from your adoption agency or facilitator.  These must be translated into English.  Send only copies of the records for our review.

After review of the records, a telephone consultation will be conducted with the prospective adoptive family to discuss findings, recommendations, and need for further testing or information.

Review of Pictures/Video Tapes

Pictures and especially good quality videotapes are often a much better way to evaluate a child than just written records alone.  We request that you send only copies of the pictures or video.  As adoptive parents, we know how valuable these can be, and we would not want to risk damaging or losing any of these treasures.  Information handouts are available upon request on producing informative videos of the child if you have the opportunity to visit with the child prior to committment to adoption.

After review of the records, a telephone consultation will be conducted with the prospective adoptive family to discuss findings, recommendations, and need for further testing or information.

Personal Office Consultation with Dr. Eckel

These personal office consultations are extensive and take an lot of time.  It is a chance to discuss the records, preparation for the adoption trip, and adoption issues in general.

Post Adoption Clinic Visit

Following the adoption, an in clinic appointment can be scheduled if desired for a complete physical evaluation of the child, recommended laboratory testing for children adopted internationally, immunizations, referrals, and recommendations for the child and family.
